On August 24, worldwide plastic processing machinery provider KraussMaffei announced that it has signed an agreement with South
Korea-based LG Electronics to develop machines for electronic devices. The company also said LG has ordered more MX series injection machines, which will be installed in the development department of LG’s Mold Technology Center currently under construction in Korea.
“We’re delighted to announce this cooperation with LG Electronics. It shows that our partner recognizes our engineering know-how in injection and reaction molding and puts a high value on the benefits that come from integrating processes from both these fields of technology in multi-process systems such as CoverForm, SkinForm or ColorForm,” said Frank Peters, Divisional Manager at KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH.
The cooperation agreement is a further step in a working partnership that has already been in existence for three years and which began with the shipment of MX injection molding machines to LG Electronics. “With our positive experience of the high quality of KraussMaffei machines and the company’s comprehensive process know-how, this cooperation represents major progress in our development work,” said Jae-Woong Yun, Head of the Mold Technology Center at LG Electronics in Pyeongtaek-si.
To ensure that LG Electronics has the scope to handle a range of development projects for future products, the injection molding machines were supplied with a number of specific process modules. With module packages such as SpinForm (for the production of multi-component parts), they are ready for universal use in the LG Research & Development Center. The development focus is on new solutions for cost-competitive, efficient and variable production of plastic components for electronics equipment.
“We see great potential for more efficient and better production of new applications through utilizing the know-how of KraussMaffei in combining injection and reaction molding technology,” explained Mr Yun. “And KraussMaffei is a good supplier for the entire process engineering.”
