AMI, Bristol, 07/06/21 – A new report from AMI Consulting published in May 2021 quantifies and analyses the European polymer distribution market and examines the most recent industry dynamics.
The 2021 edition of AMI’s Polymer distribution in Europe report is the result of an extensive research programme, providing a detailed independent assessment of this industry. The report revises and updates the status and position of distributors across Europe for the polymer materials covered. It builds on its earlier research to consider the newest factors influencing the industry such as an unprecedented shortage of material, lively M&A activities, increasing volumes of imports, recent developments related to sustainable solutions, as well as Covid-19 and Brexit.
A few years ago, the polymer distribution industry was characterised by the consolidation of suppliers’ distribution network and the rise and establishment of the pan-European distribution model. Nowadays, the ascent of distributors partnering with foreign producers and fervent M&A activity are at the centre of the industry dynamics.
In 2020, the volume of polymers distributed in Europe exceeded 4.4 million tonnes, accounting for 14% of the total demand. The industry recorded revenues of above EUR 8.3 billion with polypropylene, polyamide and polyethylene being the largest contributors to an added value of nearly EUR 960 million. Despite the struggles brought by recent market conditions and Covid-19, polymer distribution confirms itself as a healthy business worth being part of.
Over the eight editions, this study has evolved into the most comprehensive analysis of polymer distribution currently available on the market. It represents an essential guide for industry players and will help them:
- Identify emerging opportunities;
- Understand market constraints and competitive pressures;
- Appreciate the degree of penetration of imported polymeric material;
- Acknowledge the current and potential role of distribution within the sustainable solutions segment;
- Evaluate growth dynamics;
- Formulate coherent and robust business plans.
