BETHEL, CT, U.S.A., April 13, 2015: The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division has announced a call for entries in its third annual Student Parts Competition, encouraging students to specify and collaborate on a potential thermoformed application. The submission deadline is June 30, 2015.
The Competition will be held in conjunction with the 24th SPE Thermoforming Conference®, which will take place August 31-September 2 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Georgia. Awards for winning entries will be presented at the Thermoforming Awards Dinner on Tuesday, September 1, at the hotel.
Students are invited to submit an actual part or a design project that would involve the thermoforming and extrusion processes relevant to the thermoforming industry. They may choose their own material, but the product must be thermoformed. Judges will evaluate submissions by considering design innovation, process use, cost analysis, and overall creativity.
“The Student Parts Competition is a great way to get students involved in thermoforming,” said Matt O’Hagan, 2015 Parts Competition Chair. “The Thermoforming Division sponsors the Competition as part of its commitment to foster greater engagement with the student and academic community.”
A trophy will be presented to the university that submits the winning entry. Awards of $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to students for the first- and second-prize winners, respectively.
