US cement plant Lehigh Permanente and Oakbio Inc announced a new partnership based on a CO2 capture technology that can convert greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions into valuable chemical products.
“The Oakbio process involves microbial capture of CO2,” explained Russell Howard, CEO of Oakbio. “We call this new process Carbon Capture and Conversion to emphasize achievement of both reduced GHG release and conversion of CO2 to new, valuable products.”
“CO2 reduction is particularly important in California. Businesses have been searching for a viable solution to reducing these emissions, and so I am particularly excited to stand here with Oakbio today and announce this partnership,” said Plant Manager Henrik Wesseling. “This is one of our ongoing efforts to be an environmental steward and continue emissions reductions.” Lehigh’s Permanente plant has been in operation since 1939.
