NPE2012, an international plastics show produced by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), has appointed Maine Plastics, Zion, Ill., as
the official recycler of the conference. The SPI expects that the scrap plastics generated in one day at the show, to be held April 1-5, 2012 in Orlando, will amount to tens of thousands of pounds of material.
According to Maine Plastics, the company has provided recycling services for the NPE for the previous five years.
Maine Plastics will be with the collecting, separating, transporting and reprocessing production-line scrap. SPI expects to have more than 60,000 attendees to the convention. Maine Plastics will coordinate with SPI, the OCCC, exhibitors, and vendors to administer the recycling program.
David Spitulnik, Maine Plastics president, says, “Our goal is to equal or surpass the NPE2009 recycling program in which we collected and recycled 95 percent of the recoverable materials, amounting to 125,000 pounds [57 metric tons].”
To highlight the importance of recycling PET, SPI also says it is organizing a PET recycling demonstration and exhibit during the convention that is designed to be an education and awareness platform for the industry.
