New Hybrid plastic bins to ease shipping and handling

Macro Plastics, a California-based manufacturer of returnable and reusable plastic containers, recently announced the launch of their new hybrid bins – Hybrid 1012 and 1212. The company said manufacturing of the new bins began in September 2018. The bins that are a new addition to the company’s ‘Hybrid’ range, can be used for a variety of tasks and are available worldwide.

“The Hybrid 1012 and 1212 are brand new models in our Hybrid family of products,” shared Erica Rollins of Macro Plastics. “Our Hybrid 1012 and 1212 are our most versatile bins ever. They are highly durable injection moulded bins that can be used in a variety of applications including as a harvest bin, storage bin, food processing bin, or shipping bin. This is a global bin and it is being sent all over the world.”

Built to move and protect produce
One of the key features of the Hybrid 1012 and 1012 bins is the ability to take them apart for return shipments. These are not the first bins made by Macro Plastics that are intended for fast and efficient shipping. “The columns and feet are modular with the ability to be attached or removed,” Rollins explained. “When removed, the bins nest into each other for economical shipping and storage. The bins share an impressive load capacity of over 1,000 pounds at tare weights of 65 pounds (1012) and 69.9 pounds (1212).”

She added that Macro Plastics made the bins with the capacity to endure tough and lengthy journeys, while preserving the produce. “The bins are tapered, which prevents them from crashing against the walls of any adjacent bins, creating a ‘Bruise Buffer Zone’. The new column design works to protect the containers by absorbing and recoiling impact rather than resisting the blow and breaking. When stacked with their columns and feet locked into place, the bins no longer nest into each other. Instead, they are secured by our interlocking foot design, perfectly settling on top of each other so that contents remain unharmed. To better preserve produce, the Hybrid 1012 and 1212 have 10 percent more ventilation for increased airflow and faster cooling. The bins are available in both vented and solid configurations.”

In line with the shipping-friendly blueprint, Macro Plastics designed the new bins to maximize the space available for suppliers while at the same time making sure the bins fit efficiently in line with standard container sizes. Rollins described the differences between the Hybrid 1012 and 1212.

“The Hybrid 1012 is 1,000 mm in length, 1,200 mm in width and 790 mm in height,” she said. “It is the ideal bin for transporting goods globally with dimensions optimized for shipping. The bins achieve greater shipping efficiencies with their ability to nest inside each other. A farmer would be able to assemble the bins on-site, use them during harvest, ship anywhere in the world to their vendors, and have the bins sent back to them in the nested configuration.”

“The Hybrid 1212 is slightly longer at 1,200 mm, 1,200 mm wide, 790 mm high and will be delivered nested, greatly reducing the cost of delivery. Once fully assembled with the columns and feet, the Hybrid 1212 is the ultimate robust bin, ready for handling, storage, and rigorous harvest applications.”

Environmentally friendly
The company also pointed to the rise in demand for recyclable packaging by highlighting the company’s desire to minimize its environmental footprint. The bins are part of the range of items Macro Plastics produces that are designed to be returned and reused.
