While many PET producers in Europe and North America are cutting back production in the face of structural overcapacity and taking plants out of service permanently or temporarily, the world’s second-largest PET producer Indorama Polymers (Bangkok / Thailand; www.indoramapolymers.com) is about to open a new plant in the USA.
Its subsidiary AlphaPet (Decatur, Alabama / USA) will start up the new facility in the second quarter of this year, as announced in 2007. The 432,000 t/y plant cost USD 60m and is close to a PX/PTA production facility operated by BP, with which it has signed a long-term sourcing agreement for the key feedstock
