Plastics consumption in the European blow moulding industry is set to grow by 3.8% annually up to 2011, when the total volume consumed will reach around 6m t, according to market research company Applied Market Information (AMI, Bristol / UK; www.amiplastics.com) in its latest report.
PET, which has already overtaken HDPE as the leading plastic for blow moulding, will account for 3.4m t/y of consumption and the slower-growing HDPE for 2.3m t/y. The remainder will be shared among niche markets and materials such as engineering polymers, PP and PVC, the report says.
