In a move aimed at improving sustainability and recycling across North America, The Plastics

Industry Trade Association (SPI, Washington, DC / USA; www.plasticsindustry.org) and the National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR, Sonoma, California / USA; www.napcor.com) have announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) open to any company interested in establishing a model programme for the collection and processing of PET thermoformed packaging. Altogether, the two groups will award up to USD 100,000 in funds to the winning programme or programmes.

“We have been using post-consumer materials for more than two decades, and now we move forward on the final key element of sustainability – recycling thermoforms and keeping them out of landfills,” said Daniel Mohs, chair of SPI’s Thermoformers Committee. The grant is open to any US recycler providing a full range of programme services, from consumer education to marketing.
