US-based PolyOne Corporation announced that Aragonesa de Componentes Pasivos (ACP), a manufacturer of electronics components in Spain, has selected its Edgetek AM non-halogenated flame retardant solutions for production of newest line of micro-potentiometers.
“This specialty solution was focused on achieving the high performance standards needed for ACP to reach its growth objectives for micro-potentiometer applications while also furthering the company’s goal of reducing the environmental impact of its devices,” commented PolyOne’s Holger Kronimus, General Manager, Engineered Materials Europe.
ACP’s micro-potentiometers are critical for dividing voltage and measuring electric potential to control volume and other levels in both industrial and consumer electronic devices. As consumer electronic devices become smaller, thinner and more versatile, the space available within these devices for electronic components is also shrinking.
The material solutions chosen for these applications must include self-extinguishing behavior upon exposure to flame, dimensional stability, creep resistance at high temperatures, sufficient mechanical and electrical performance, ease of coloring, ease of processing for thin wall parts in multi-cavity tools, and ability to withstand Surface Mount Technology (SMT) temperatures and solder materials.
According to PolyOne, its material experts worked with ACP to develop a non-halogenated flame retardant solution able to be used in existing injection molds. The collaboration also enabled a fine-tuning of the Edgetek AM solution.
