Train maker buys Boy presses
Model train maker Gebr. Märklin & Cie GmbH ordered two Boy 35 E injection presses in December from Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG.
In 2010, Boy delivered four injection presses to Märklin in Göppingen, two with clamping forces of 35 metric tons and two of 22 tonnes.
Wolfrad Bächle, a Märklin managing partner responsible for production, said the energy efficient E-series “fits like a glove” into the toy makers factory. The E-series uses a servo motor to drive the hydraulic pump.
“Since we have an enormous number of plastic parts for our railways, railway cars and rail material, we also have a large number of molds,” Bächle said. All of the molds fit, because the 35-tonne press has extremely generous distances between tie bars and platens, he said.
The Boy machines run in a three-shift operation.
Märklin was founded in 1859 to produce dollhouse accessories from lacquered tinplate. In the 1890s, the company showed a clockwork-driven train that ran on rails, and moved to pioneer the sale of entire layouts, that would be expanded over time.
Boy is based in Fernthal, Germany.
