The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken the initiative of setting up plastic recycling units across the city in a phased manner. The first unit recently became operational in the Aundh area. Four more are expected to start soon.

The civic body has joined hands with a private agency to install the units. Four more units will come up at Koregaon park, Mandai, Katraj and Jangli Maharaj Road. The facility would be available at Pune station and Lohegaon airport later. These units would not process plastic of less microns.

The civic body’s objective to start these units is to ensure maximum plastic trash is recycled instead of being dumped at public places or garbage bins. Every unit being installed in the city has a capacity to process about 8,000 bottles in a day scientifically.
