Davis-Standard supplies easy-to-install 3-layer extrusion line to Sigma Stretch Film
Davis-Standard LLC, a US based extrusion systems provider, recently supplied a blown film
line to Sigma Stretch Film’s facility in Shelbyville, part of Sigma Plastics Group in the US.
According to Davis-Standard, the three-layer production line is similar to the line purchased by Sigma in 2008. It is slated for mid-2011 installation and all machines will be pre-wired, requiring only primary power drops and communications cables to reduce time and cost.
“We’ve been very pleased with the Davis-Standard line we installed in the Tulsa (Oklahoma) plant in 2009,” said Per Nylen, Executive Vice President of Sigma Stretch Film. “Davis-Standard has enabled us to advance our machinery technology to support new markets and defend our leading position. They have done a very good job of addressing our needs and we are pleased with the depth of their machinery capabilities in both blown and cast film.”
In addition, Davis-Standard will host a workshop on “The Basics of Plastics Extrusion” on October 11 and 12 at its headquarters in Pawcatuck, the US. The comprehensive two-day class will cover the fundamentals of plastics extrusion, as well as the composition and properties of various polymers and the mechanics of essential downstream processes. Topics include extruder components, temperature control, maintenance and screw design.
In addition to instruction, course participants will tour Davis-Standard’s Technology Center and manufacturing facilities, and will have access to polymer process engineers and technical specialists. The fee is US$750 per person with a 10% discount given for groups of three or more. Course books and materials are included, and class size is limited to promote student/teacher interaction.
